State Relations

Similar to our involvement at the federal level, we endeavor to represent the University’s interests on matters of legislation and regulation that may impact TCU at the state level. We keep the state legislature informed on an array of issues using information gained through research provided by TCU community members. We, too, ensure our interests are protected by collaborating with Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, the state private higher-education legislative association.

What is ICUT?

In addition to our resources, we turn to Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT) to represent TCU’s interests on certain legislation. ICUT is a nonprofit association that represents the general and, in some cases, specific interests and protects the general welfare of independent colleges in Texas.

Current ICUT Priorities

In the upcoming 84th state legislative session, Texas Equalization Grant and Campus Carry are key legislative issues for ICUT.

Texas Equalization Grant (TEG)

The Texas Equalization Grant helps fund education for low- and middle-income Texas residents who cannot afford tuition at independent institutions. In the 2011-12 academic year, thirteen percent of undergraduates at TCU received TEG funding.
