What we do

Our office is dedicated to ensuring the needs and desires of the TCU community are expressed to various stakeholders responsible for shaping any legislation or regulation affecting higher education. In order to understand appropriately the needs and interests of the TCU community, we communicate heavily with our constituents to gather and evaluate information. Therefore, we can serve as an advocate and a voice for the University. Toward that end, we remain abreast of current events in the governmental space that may have an impact on the institution by working collaboratively with various national and state professional associations.

Our Primary Objectives

  • Enhance TCU’s visibility and reputation among the leadership of higher education and government
  • Facilitate the development of high visibility educational programs, partnerships and projects for TCU in the nation’s capital
  • Contact local, state and federal elected and public officials and educational agencies in support of important higher education issues and TCU projects

Relationship Building

A major focus of this position is not only to establish an academic and a leadership presence in Washington, D.C., but it also includes relationship building with the state legislature and various agencies in Austin. Therefore, on behalf of the University, Government Affairs partners with the American Council on Education (ACE), National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT), and others to advance the perception and agenda of TCU as a leader in innovative higher education.
